Project organization
In October 2002, the City council commissioned the City executive board to present a proposal for a decision concerning the construction of a concert and conference facility on the Gerd block based on a design formulated by Henning Larsens Tegnestue, Copenhagen.
The planning took place in a special project organization with a political management group for overall management and control.
The committee was composed of City commissioners Lena Hartwig (Socialist), Britt Löfgren (Left Party), Leif Sanner (Liberal Party) and Ola Leife (Christian Democrats), who called in the chairperson of the Cultural affairs board, Kees Geurtsen (Socialist) and from the Real estate board, Irene Zetterberg (Socialist) as well as chairperson John-Erik Thun (Socialist) and vice chairperson Jan-Erik Wikström (Liberal Party) from Musikens Hus i Uppsala AB.
The City executive office through the chief planning director Carl-Johan Engström and project coordinator Mona Askelöf had the overall responsibility for coordinating the project. Project administrator Jonnie Andersson from the Real estate office participated.
The Real estate office selected Hifab Byggprojektledaren AB to be responsible for the project administrative services that are demanded for leading the project during the handling of system documents. In addition, a number of firms were engaged including WSP as consultant for electrical installations, heating, ventilation and sanitation and fire protection, Knut Jönsson Engineering for construction, Akustikon for acoustics, Hifab for the environment, Bjerking for geotechnics, the Storköksbyrå for catering as well as BK project engineers for cost accounting.
Magnus Bäckström, the first Managing Director for the company that will run the facility, actively participated in the planning of the building, with support from Musik i Uppland, Uppsala Tourism, Cultural affairs office and the Chamber of Commerce for Uppsala County. He formed an operational profile, and advanced marketing and collaboration.
