The Linnaeus Heritage Sites
There are still many traces of Linnaeus in Uppsala. He lived, for instance, on a central street of the town - Svartbäcksgatan - in what is now the Linnaeus Museum and Linnaeus Garden. But he often longed for the countryside, which is why he bought the farm estate of Hammarby outside Uppsala in 1758. He also purchased a farm residence in Sävja, now owned by the City of Uppsala.
All of the above have been declared Linnaeus Heritage Sites. The Linnaeus Excursion Paths along which the famous botanist taught his students are also included.
In addition, there is something of a Linnaeus Heritage Site in Gränby, where Linnaeus’s daughter Sara Stina lived. The farm estate no longer exists but during the celebration year of 2007, a path was cleared through the area along which visitors can learn more about women botanists of Linnaeus’s day.
