Tradition and innovation
Uppsala's cultural life is characterised both by tradition and history as well as development and innovation. The musical tradition is strong in Uppsala; all kinds of music can be heard and there are over 200 different choirs. Theatre-lovers have much to explore with exciting scenes facing the audience from different angles. The older and newer works of art can be viewed at the various museums as well as in public places throughout the city. Östra Ågatan received the architectural Siena Prize in 2005 for the walking path along the Fyris River. Uppsala's library offers books in many different languages along with free access to the Internet, databases, music and film. The library is also a meeting place for many people.
