Uppsala - strategic location
Uppsala has a central location in a region with strong growth. The Mälar region which includes Uppsala, Arlanda Airport and Stockholm includes one third of Sweden's population and around 50 percent of the country's research and development capacity.
Uppsala has the basic preconditions for well developed industry and commerce: Two universities; Uppsala University (Uppsala universitet) and the University of Agricultural Sciences (Svenska lantbruksuniversitetet SLU), good communications and proximity to the Central Swedish and East European markets.
From Uppsala it is easy to reach the rest of the world
Halfway to Stockholm lies Arlanda international airport with extensive foreign and domestic traffic.
Uppsala has long been on the Northern main line which allows excellent train connections with the rest of Sweden. The journey time to Stockholm today is 40 minutes. The E4 which connects southern Sweden with the north passes through Uppsala, and Stockholm can be reached by motorway in 40 minutes. Uppsala county also has a well developed bus network with Uppsala as its hub.
Uppsalas nearest ports are Stockholm, Kapellskär and Hargshamn, which all provide close and efficient connections with Finland, Russia and the Baltic States.
The conditions for electronic communication between Uppsala and the rest of the world are excellent. Uppsala lies on the main line for electronic communication which crosses the length and breadth of the country. The region therefore has a good position for the increasing use of IT and telecommunications.
